Lawson Peak

LAWSON PEAK

On this hike we brought two dogs and their owners. On top Lucy owned by Joel & Rachel, and below making her second appearance Tasha owned by Heather & Adam. Lawson Peak is located southeast of Rancho San Diego. The hike is 4.5 miles round trip covering a 1400 foot elevation change with the peak reaching 3660 feet above sea level.

The trail up to Lawson Peak is an old fire road mainly used by 4x4 vehicles. as you can see in the background of one the photo's there is a jeep that made on top of a huge granite hillside.  Not to much wildlife along the trail but the company of friends made up for that.  At the top we had a brief lunch due to one of our parties work obligations... Back down the trail we went.  I would love to do this again with climbing gear and more time...

Upper San Diego River; Three Sisters Waterfalls

For the first blog in this series we made a decision to visit the Three Sisters Waterfalls located in the Upper San Diego River area. On Valentine's day four of us (Adam, Heather, Gosia, and I, don't forget Tosha) drove east for an hour then north through the Cuyamaca mountains. This was the first treat in our day, that Saturday there was a break in the storms that were moving through San Diego all week.
These storms brought much needed snow to our local mountains and as we drove through Cuyamaca there was no shortage of the stuff. It's amazing you can be at the beach and in one hour in the snow, San Diego at it's best. After driving through the snow in Cuyamaca we reached the small town of Julian. Leaving Julian and driving for another 8-10 miles we reach the trailhead of the Three Sisters Waterfalls hike.
The hike itself is 4 miles round trip. 1000 ft elevation gain/loss. Approximate time 3 hours. Here are some photo's from the trip.
