Upper San Diego River; Three Sisters Waterfalls

For the first blog in this series we made a decision to visit the Three Sisters Waterfalls located in the Upper San Diego River area. On Valentine's day four of us (Adam, Heather, Gosia, and I, don't forget Tosha) drove east for an hour then north through the Cuyamaca mountains. This was the first treat in our day, that Saturday there was a break in the storms that were moving through San Diego all week.
These storms brought much needed snow to our local mountains and as we drove through Cuyamaca there was no shortage of the stuff. It's amazing you can be at the beach and in one hour in the snow, San Diego at it's best. After driving through the snow in Cuyamaca we reached the small town of Julian. Leaving Julian and driving for another 8-10 miles we reach the trailhead of the Three Sisters Waterfalls hike.
The hike itself is 4 miles round trip. 1000 ft elevation gain/loss. Approximate time 3 hours. Here are some photo's from the trip.

  1. It looks so green for San Diego. I've heard that Julian has a great apple festival in the fall/winter. Good excuse for another trip out there.
